MTSU— Last Friday, an armed robbery at Middle Tennessee State University’s residence hall, Scarlett Commons, left students and residents feeling unsurprised about the repeated crimes on campus.
The armed robbery that occurred last Friday at MTSU is one of the many crimes that have occurred on campus this year. Students are starting to become numb to the notifications received about crimes on or around the school.
Isaiah Rodriguez, a resident of Scarlett for two years, said that he was not surprised at all that the robbery occurred so close to where he lives.
“To be honest the first thing I thought was ‘not again,’” Rodriguez explains. “This is not the first time it’s happened.”
But, the students expressed their praise of how the MTSU Alert System notified them about the robbery, because they were more aware of their surrounds and were able to take the proper precautions to stay safe.
The residents shared that they still feel safe living on campus, and that the crimes are things that are out of their control.
If any suspicious behavior is noticed, please call MTSU Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867 or MTSU Police.
